Chargers’ Denzel Perryman Released from Custody, No Charges Filed After Arrest on Weapons Allegation
LOS ANGELES — Los Angeles Chargers linebacker Denzel Perryman was released from police custody Monday afternoon and will not face criminal charges, according to public records. The decision comes three days after Perryman’s arrest on a felony weapons charge.
The 32‑year‑old veteran had been held without bail since Friday night, when police stopped him for alleged vehicle code violations. During the traffic stop, officers conducted a search of his vehicle and discovered five firearms, including two assault‑style rifles, according to a statement from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
Perryman was initially scheduled to appear in court Tuesday morning at the Inglewood Courthouse. However, Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan Hochman announced that prosecutors would not be filing charges in the case. The DA’s office did not immediately provide further details regarding the decision.
The arrest had cast uncertainty over Perryman’s status with the Chargers, who signed the linebacker in March for his second stint with the team. Perryman, a second‑round pick by the Chargers in 2015, previously played six seasons in Los Angeles before spending time with the Las Vegas Raiders and Houston Texans.
It remains unclear whether the NFL will conduct its own review of the matter under the league’s personal conduct policy. Neither the Chargers nor Perryman’s representatives have issued a public statement since his release.
